Vehicle Sales Authority (VSA)
The Motor Vehicle Sales Authority of British Columbia (VSA) is an administrative authority delegated by the provincial government to administer and enforce the Motor Dealer Act and its regulations, the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act as it relates to the sale of motor vehicles, and other related statutes.
Founded in 2004 and formerly named the Motor Dealer Council of B.C. (MDC), the agency became one of the first examples of the B.C. government's new approach for administering public policy through a "delegated administrative authority."
The VSA regulates and licenses approximately 1,600 motor dealers and 7,000 salespeople and consumer-related business staff of dealerships.
The VSA works with both industry and the public with respect to business practices, regulation, enforcement, complaint resolution, dealership inspections, consumer services, legislation reviews, advertising guidelines and all related issues.
The provincial government maintains responsibility for all policy and legislation governing the licensing of motor dealers including any future changes to the Motor Dealer Act.
